Games

I think this technique is important because students need to feel like they are having fun also while at school. Yes the game should be educational, but also should be a change of pace from the norm in the classroom. Also I believe that games are more interactive and will get more of my students involved in what we are learning.

I would integrate this into my classroom by using it in place of maybe when a lab would be placed in another section. Maybe there is not a lab for this particular section of the chapter. Another great time to use this might be for studying for an upcoming test, especially if maybe students are not finishing up study guides are just seem to need a change of pace. I would not use it all the time but when it seems appropriate for the class.

Yes I have experience this technique before and in most cases it seemed to really help students recharge their batteries. If a small prize is given maybe it could get them a little more motivated to learn and participate in the lesson at hand.

There have been teachers that have used this technique both in a good way and in a bad way. I think the teachers that have used it in a good way used it sparingly, maybe in times of need for the students. Also the guidelines and outlines of the activity were very clear beforehand as to not confuse or get the students off track. The teachers who did not use this technique successfully lost control of the class, where not clear on how the game was to be done, and/or used this technique too often so as to lose the interest of the students. I think it’s very important to make sure all students are involved and active when using the game technique.
